Paper Jams and Paper Feed Problem

To clear away paper jam from the paper tray of the Printer:

  1. Pull to open the paper tray and clear the paper jam
  2. Slide out the Photo tray from the Paper tray carriage and clear the paper jam
  3. Remove any torn or jammed papers and then Reload both of the photo and paper tray back to the Printer

Note: Do not take away the paper path cover since it acts as a barrier to foreign debris that get into the paper path, thus causing paper jam

  1. Touch the Resume tab in the control panel to continue the current print job

To clear an internal paper jam from the Output Tray:

  • Press the Power button to turn the printer OFF
  • Locate the cartridge door latch at the front of Printer to release it. Push Upward to open the Cartridge access door.
  • Access the Paper path cover and remove it from its place to clear the paper jam
  • Replace the Paper path cover to avoid foreign debris get into the paper path
  • If problems exist then locate the print carriage and move it to the far right to clear away the paper jam
  • Now move the print carriage to the far left to clear away the remaining paper jam
  • Push Down to close the Cartridge access door and latch it on to Printer
  • If problem is unresolved then Pull out the Paper Tray completely and turn the printer on its sides to locate the cleanout present in the paper tray gap. If there exist any paper jams then remove it completely from the cleanout.
  • Turn the printer back to its original position and push the paper tray on to the printer
  • Turn ON the Power button in the Printer

To Clear a Print Carriage Jam:

  • Remove any objects such as paper and other foreign debris, that blocks the print carriage from functioning
  • Avoid using any tools to free print carriage stall
  • Scroll down the control panel to open the Dashboard
  • Touch Help and navigate through options to locate and tap Troubleshoot and Support button
  • Touch Clear Carriage Jam

How to prevent Paper Jams

  • Load the Paper Tray with a suitable number of sheets, avoid keeping large number of sheets at once
  • Promptly take away the printed papers from output tray in order to neglect paper jams
  • While loading papers to the Paper Tray make sure that the papers are not cracked or bent condition
  • Ensure the loaded papers remain stationary in the photo tray and the edges not bent
  • Always use same type of paper and do not use different paper types while loading the paper Tray. i.e., heavily thick or too thin papers
  • Ensure all of the feed papers in the Paper Tray are of standard size
  • Using the paper-width guides in the Paper tray to stuff the papers, eliminates the jams and misalignment during printing
  • Always use the Paper path cover to avoid foreign debris getting into the paper path, thus causing paper jam
  • Always switch off the Printer before loading paper to Paper tray. Also avoid loading paper during printing process

Ink Cartridge issues

Identify the Ink Cartridge problem:

  • If you get an ink cartridge issue from the Printer software then do one of the following:
  • Locate the cartridge door latch at the front of Printer to release it. Push Upward to open the Cartridge access door.
  • Press the Power button to turn the printer ON
  • Remove the ink cartridge and locate the electrical contact exhibited in gold colored dots. Use a clean cloth to wipe of the dust and proceed with the other Cartridge
  • Ensure to peel off the plastic tape, if present, from the Ink Cartridges
  • Reinstall the ink cartridge back to its slots with Latches ON
  • Push Down to close the Cartridge access door and latch on to the printer
  • If you still get error messages then reboot the Printer

Note: Ensure that you have loaded papers in the paper tray and the Printer is turned ON

  • Windows 7: Click on the Start button in your Desktop and Click Control Panel, System and Security, and then Administrative Tools. Double Click Services and right click Print Spooler icon and select Properties. Locate the General tab and select Automatic.
  • Windows Vista: Click on the Start button in your Desktop, Click Control Panel, System and Maintenance, Administrative Tools. Double Click Services and right click Print Spooler service and select Properties. Locate the General tab and select Automatic.
  • Windows XP: Click on the Start button in your Desktop and Right Click My Computer. Click Manage and then Click Services and Applications. Double Click Services and right click Print Spooler service and Click Restart to restart from begin
  1. Restart your Computer
  2. If problems persist then clear the print queue. According to the Windows OS follow the steps given below:
  • Windows 8.1 and Windows 8: Point the cursor to upper right corner of the screen to display the Charms bar. Click Settings icon and then Click Control Panel. Double-Click to open View devices and printers

  3. Use Printer menu and click Cancel all documents or Purge Print Document, and then Click Yes button

To troubleshoot print issues in Apple OS X:

  1. Check for error message in control panel and resolve it
  2. Disconnect the USB cable and reconnect it
  3. Ensure that the Printer is not offline or paused. Follow the given below steps to make the Printer Online

  • Click the Open Print Queue button

123 HP Envy 4520 Printer Hardware Problem

To manually remove the Output Tray Extender:

If automatic Tray extender does not functions then you can follow the steps below to resolve this issue.

  1. Remove the output tray by pulling it away from the printer
  2. On the rear of the output tray locate the Output Tray Lock to unlock it. Also find the release lever to release the tray extender
  3. Replace the output tray back to the printer, present with the extender

Unexpectedly Printer shuts down:

  • Check for the incoming Power and the Power On button
  • If problem persist, Disconnect the Power cord and wait for 15 seconds and connect it to the wall outlet
  • Ensure there is no damage to the Power cord and is firmly fixed

Note: Auto OFF Mode will automatically turn the Printer OFF, if printer remained inactive for duration of 2 hours.

Misalignment of Print head:

  • Print head misalignment happens if you load paper during the printing process
  • You have to clean the Print Head regularly and check for any defective sensor to neglect alignment problem
